Luís Cordeiro

Senior Chef

Luís was born and raised in a traditional Portuguese family in Trás-os-Montes, in the heart of northeastern Portugal. He grew up surrounded by local produce and elaborate, seasonal dishes. This inspired his passion for food, culture, and the culinary arts. He wanted to learn more about the interaction of different flavour combinations and realised early on that cooking was his vocation.

Luís completed the Técnico de Restauração course at the Ensino Secundario Profissional in 2016. He wished to learn more after two years of working in the field and moved to Seia in the heart of the Serra da Estrela. There, he graduated in Food, Beverage, and Catering from the Instituto Politécnico da Guarda in 2021.

After completing an internship at the Casa da Esquila in Sabugal, our Executive Chef, Rui Cerveira, invited Luís to head the New Life Portugal kitchen. At the age of 23, he was able to make his childhood dream come true. Here, he shows the community what it means to give and receive love through the kitchen, just as his own family did. He also feels New Life is a wonderful place to continue learning and sharing knowledge.

Luís believes that the cuisine he practices is the future. The vision behind our menu is international fusion focused on sustainability, tradition, and respecting the produce. He hopes that New Life’s guests and staff are able to experience mindfulness through the taste and quality of the food they eat.
